I laughed when this was on my husband's Christmas list! However, this is an awesome book. It has so many handy tips for literally everything around the house and garden. From cold remedies to gardening and yard tips, to anything household, you will find something for almost any category. It's a bit old-fashioned in theory, but this stuff really works!

Informatively fascinating about good, honest and religious people. They don’t have the modern conveniences most of us have, yet they seem to be much happier and satisfied. Makes you appreciate family values and community. More importantly, it makes you thing and perhaps adjust your own lifestyle for the better. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I grew up in a farm community and this book brought back many memories. This is a great reference book on anyone interested in good farming practices and other low tech living.
Really good informarion and self help info to implement. Good value for the money.
I've never been very good with plants: planted in a garden, planted in a pot, flowers, herbs, vegetables, or fruits. I've read several books of how to plant a perennial/off grid/survival garden, but this one is the clearest and most straightforward. The illustrations and diagrams are especially good. This book gives me hope that I could start a garden from scratch and be successful.
Fun information, practicality with grain of salt. Better believability than other amish survival skill books. Shared with family.
Thank you it is right size of book for me and I can’t wait to learn more about gardening and how to persevere food
Love this book. Came in perfect condition. So many old school ways of things. This book is DEFINITELY worth purchasing.
This book is fantastic and has lots of good homemaker/survivalist information. My only issue is some of these ingredients aren’t common in my area and would be special order. Makes it a bit hard to use.
My daughter loves this book. She’s already using some of the ideas in the book. It’s a great book to start to learn how to live off the grid. There’s so much information and it’s almost overwhelming, but they enjoy it.
I've always wanted to find out more about the way the Amish lead their lives, as it always seemed like they were from a completely different world. I am glad there's finally a book that covers their day-to-day, and not only that! There's a lot of stuff to learn from this book, especially when it comes to natural remedies and projects to keep you self-sufficient on your property. I've already started working on the free-electricity fridge and the next project I want to try is the Amish-type smokehouse, for long-lasting foods. But probably the one thing I like most about this book, besides the practical knowledge, is the author's personal insights on his life inside the community.
These days it’s hard to know when and how the worst will hit. So I’ve started to get into self-sufficiency and homesteading for a while now, which means lots of reading. I could have saved so much money on books if I had started with this one. This book starts with the basics that any home needs: a whole-year garden. Then there’s the section on growing and raising your food, plus how to preserve and cook with it (including meats and dairy products). Then useful things for the house like candle making, organizing your pantry, herbal remedies, making your own natural toothpaste and so on. It even shows you how to dig wells, purify and preserve water. It shows you what tools and items you need to always have on hand, like the Amish do. But my favourite part was the Amish insights.
Lots of good information.... unfortunately I'm 74 lady and most of the book requires muscles I don't have anymore. The food storage section is good. I'm not steady enough to forage . The medicinal section is good so overall it's a good book.
Super informative, if you have never been Aston’s this type of lifestyle then you’ll learn a lot. I grew Up with bakers and canners so it’s nice to add some other views about doing those things to my repertoire.
I love this book. It explains how to start your own yard, what plants harmonize, practical tips to recognize herbs, and so much more. I can only recommend it.
It explores traditional Amish-related knowledge and practical topics such as food preservation, gardening, household skills and self-reliance.
It is intended for readers curious about traditional skills and resourceful living. You don't need to be an experienced homesteader to enjoy exploring these topics.
It is a full colour paperback with 223 pages, so photos and diagrams are clear and easy to follow.
No. Each project lists the materials and tools and walks you through numbered steps with photos, so beginners can start straight away.
Yes. It suits gardeners, homesteaders, cooks and anyone who enjoys doing things themselves.
